Here, amber and opoponax play the lead, backed by elemi’s piney lift and a dollop of creamy ylang-ylang that keeps everything from turning too solemn. The drydown is a woody vanilla hug: guaiac wood and sandalwood sand down the edges, while patchouli and cedar add just enough grit to stop it tipping into syrupy sweetness. The overall character is a low-slung, resinous quilt on a cool evening, something you sink into rather than strut out in.
