Our take

This is patchouli for people who think they hate patchouli, or at least for those moments when you want the earthy hippie to put on a clean shirt and sit up straight instead of sprawling on the floor. Patchouli Blanc opens with a fizzy, almost licorice-tinged sparkle of aldehydes and star anise, that curious anis note never going full black jellybean but staying crisp and slightly cool. Quickly it powders over, hawthorn lending a soft floral sweetness that feels like the faintest dusting of face powder on a wooden dresser. The base of patchouli, white musk, sandalwood, and amber is where the magic lives: this is not the dark, dank, rooty patchouli of head shops, but a smoothed, almost cashmere version, the heart of the note sanded down and buffed with white musk until it glows like a bar of ivory soap left on a sunlit shelf in a chic boutique hotel. The longevity at 3.09 and sillage at 2.87 tell the honest story: it sits close to the skin, a whisper rather than a shout, which suits its powdery, softly woody character perfectly. It is a gentle chypre, leaning more mainstream than niche, with a synthetic sheen that some might call soapy but which I find perfectly appropriate for spring and fall days when you want to smell clean and slightly cerebral without demanding attention. Skip it if you love tar-and-earth patchouli or need a beast mode banger, but for a quiet Sunday brunch or an afternoon at the museum, this is linen-crisp, mildly flirtatious, and utterly wearable.
