Our take

Oud Imperial Extrait by Perris Monte Carlo opens like a church door swinging shut on a damp autumn evening. Labdanum and incense hit first, sticky and liturgical, with Cypriol oil adding a leathery, almost fermented greenness that keeps the smoke from floating away too quickly. The heart is where this earns its name: a dark, medicinal agarwood wrapped in Styrax’s vanilla-tinged resin and the warm tar of Gurjan balsam. It is not a clean oud, nor a polite one. This is the kind of wood you find in a spice trader’s basement, humid and splintered, layered with patchouli and birch in the base until the whole thing feels like a fur coat left too long in a cedar chest.

The drydown softens into sandalwood and vetiver, but the Ambrarome and labdanum keep a low, animalic warmth humming beneath. Longevity is excellent, over eight hours on skin, and sillage sits at a confident arm’s length, never shouting. If I had one honest complaint, it is that the opening bitterness can feel blunt rather than refined, a rough edge that some may call synthetic even though the raw materials are clearly natural.

This is a cold-weather scent through and through, made for wool scarves and indoor firelight. It suits someone who wants depth without sweetness, a woody amber that leans more cathedral than nightclub. If you prefer airy freshness or gourmand comfort, skip it. But if you want a fragrance that smells like black resin slowly melting into old leather, this is your winter coat in a bottle.
