Giallo di Tebe can feel a little disjointed when the spices clash. Star anise and nutmeg sometimes push too hard against the resins, creating a sharp edge that never quite smooths out. Cardamom adds its own prickly warmth, which does not always sit comfortably beside the saffron. The patchouli carries a damp earthiness that some will find distracting rather than grounding. It is not a seamless blend, and the transitions between its elements can seem abrupt instead of flowing.
Cedar brings a dry woodiness that cuts through the heavier amber. Laurels contribute a green, slightly medicinal facet that keeps the composition from becoming too sweet. The powdery accord softens the sharper aromatics, lending a vintage feel to the overall impression. This is a scent that prefers a wool coat and the crisp air of a garden path after rain, or a quiet room with the windows open to a cool breeze. It fits moments when the light is pale and the air carries a bite.
The floral note hides among the spices, appearing in small glimpses before the camphor accord takes over again. It is a fragmented walk through an old apothecary shop where jars of whole spices line the walls and a single dried bouquet sits forgotten on a high shelf.
