Pure Perle opens with a crisp, almost dewy pear blossom softened by a whisper of bergamot, a fleeting moment of brightness that immediately gives way to the creamy heart. Gardenia and heliotrope blend into a plush, powdery white floral accord, with the heliotrope bringing a faint, cosmetic almond undertone that feels like a silk scarf dusted with vanilla-scented face powder. The base of tonka bean, musk, sandalwood, and cedar anchors everything in a warm, slightly woody softness, but this is no deep Oriental. It is a sheer, lactonic veil, a cloud of powdered sugar and clean linen floating two inches from the skin.
The overall character is that of a single, perfect pearl on a silver chain: delicate, luminous, and utterly quiet. For all its prettiness, Pure Perle suffers from a frustrating weakness. With longevity barely cresting two and a half hours and sillage that begs you to press your nose to your wrist, it evaporates almost faster than you can admire it.
