Black Sun
Fragrance notes
Character
Black Sun opens with a strangely compelling jolt: labdanum’s sticky, ambered honey is cut by basil’s sharp greenness and a dry cedar splinter. It feels like walking into a chapel that smells of old resin and forgotten herbs. The heart deepens with fir resin, which adds a cathedral-worthy incense quality, while geranium and clary sage keep things herbal and slightly soapy, never letting the sweetness go syrupy. As it settles, tonka and vanilla soften the balsamic base, and vetiver roots everything in damp earth. The overall effect is a warm, aromatic woodiness spiked with fresh green accents, like a winter forest floor that’s just been kissed by sun through fog.
It’s an intriguing but uneven wear. The longevity is average at best, barely three hours before it becomes a skin scent, and sillage stays close from the start. This isn’t a belter; it’s a quiet, introspective companion. The sweetness leans natural rather than cloying, but the vanilla-tonka duo can feel a tad generic against the sharper top notes. Where it shines is in cool weather, especially autumn and winter, and for day or night wear as a confident but unshowy choice. It suits someone who appreciates a melancholic, resinous aromatic over a loud compliment-getter. If you need projection or all-day presence, skip it. Black Sun is a modest vignette, not a statement.
