Olivier Cresp was clearly aiming for polish over punch, and the heart delivers on that promise: olibanum adds a faint ecclesiastical glow, ambroxan provides that clean, salty mineral hum, and sage keeps things herbal rather than sweet. The base is musky amberwood with gurjan balsam’s warm, slightly medicinal resin, all rendered in a soft spicy register that feels more Italianate than Germanic. The overall impression is of a well-turned manila envelope on a mahogany desk, its contents precise and professional, but the envelope itself is nearly empty. That short longevity and whisper-soft sillage are the real story here. At 2.92 and 2.81 respectively, this is a fragrance that says something and then immediately apologizes. It works best in spring and fall, settling into a skin-level haze that passes for good manners rather than presence. Wear it to a midday meeting, a library afternoon, or any place where you want to smell competent but not loud. Those who crave projection or a long evening arc should skip.
