Gelsomini di Capri 2017
Fragrance notes
Character
The opening of Gelsomini di Capri is a sprightly citrus kick, all bergamot and tangerine with a nervy pinch of pink pepper and ginger. It announces itself like a glass of limoncello dropped into a jasmine bush. That initial brightness fades quickly, though, and what follows is a dense, creamy white floral bouquet jasmine and orange blossom lead, ylang-ylang and a honeyed rose circling behind. The broom adds a sun-warmed, hay-like texture that keeps the florals from tipping into shampoo territory. This is not a shy fragrance, but it is a close one: the base of musk, vanilla, and cashmere wood settles into a soft, ambery skin scent that stays personal rather than filling a room. With longevity hovering around three hours and sillage barely grazing arm’s length, you are essentially wearing a beautiful secret.
The overall character feels like a white silk scarf tied around a sunburned wrist, light and luxurious but not indulgent. It is sweet in that Mediterranean way, where citrus and honeyed flowers meet warm amber, never cloying or synthetic. It smells natural enough to be convincing, but the performance numbers keep it from feeling like a serious investment. This is a daytime affair for spring and summer, perfect for brunch on a terrace or a breezy afternoon stroll. Wear it if you love jasmine and want something pretty, cheerful, and uncomplicated. Skip it if you need projection on your dinner date, or if you prefer your florals with a darker edge.
