Our take

Evening Rose D'Or asks a lot of patience from anyone who dislikes heavy sweetness. The opening bursts with blackberry and litchi, bright and juicy, but the pink pepper immediately adds a sharp bite that can feel abrasive if you prefer soft entrances. Once the fruit steps aside, the heart reveals May rose and Bulgarian rose soaked in honey. The honey is thick, almost syrupy, and it pushes the roses toward a dense, golden warmth that some will find overwhelming. Incense and amber in the base pull the scent toward a resinous, smoky depth, while patchouli and leather ground the flowers in something darker and more serious.

This is a fragrance for a candlelit dinner in a city where the air still carries a chill. The roses feel expensive, the kind found in a velvet-lined box rather than a garden, and the leather adds a whisper of old luxury. It moves through a room with a balsamic, warm spicy trail that feels intentional and composed. The honey never fully fades, which keeps the entire composition leaning into that rich, gourmand space. It is sweet, but the incense prevents it from becoming a simple sugar bomb.

The limitation remains the honey. It dominates the drydown so thoroughly that the leather and patchouli often struggle to emerge clearly. If you want a rose that stays dry and green, this will feel too sticky and indulgent. The fruit at the start is lovely, but the syrupy heart lingers long after the initial sparkle disappears, making it a difficult choice for anyone who values a light, airy finish.
