Highness VI opens with a bright, almost brash slap of nutmeg and spices, the ambergris adding a salty, mineralized warmth that stops it from turning into a holiday potpourri. That sharpness quickly softens as lavender and black currant step in, the fruit lending a jammy, almost sour sweetness that cuts through the patchouli’s earthy grit. On the dry down, amber and musk take over, wrapping the whole thing in a powdery, oakmoss-tinged blanket that feels like an old library after a rainstorm, the leather chairs still holding the ghost of someone’s cologne.
The overall character is a finely made tweed jacket with a secret lining of crushed blackberries, elegant but with a sticky, animalic undercurrent that keeps it from being boring.
