Our take

Coffee is the note that defines Black Opium Le Parfum, dark and a little bitter, grounding what could otherwise be an overly sweet gourmand into something with real edge. It smells closer to espresso grounds than to a coffee-flavored dessert, roasted and a little dry rather than sugary.

Pear opens things up top, juicy and a little green, stepping aside almost immediately once the coffee and vanilla arrive. Vanilla ties the rest together in multiple forms, thick, warm, and a little boozy, with a soft warm spice running alongside it that adds real depth. There's a faint white floral hum somewhere in the middle too, easy to miss under all that coffee and vanilla but there if you look for it.

Longevity is moderate, an easy, unhurried presence that doesn't call for extra attention. Sillage stays modest, a warm coffee-vanilla waft noticed easily up close. The coffee-vanilla warmth comes into its own once the air turns cold, and it leans firmly toward evening over daytime wear. Black Opium Le Parfum leans hard into coffee and vanilla throughout, warm and a little bitter by the finish, closer to a strong espresso than a straightforward dessert.
