Stag opens with a bright, almost aggressive citrus bite, blood grapefruit and bergamot sharpened by elemi’s resinous tang. That initial spark is the most outgoing moment you will get, because within minutes the heart descends into a smoky leather and oud embrace, labdanum adding a sticky, ambered warmth. The drydown is all chapel incense and palo santo’s cool, sacred woodiness, patchouli anchoring it low and dark. The overall character is like a candlelit study in an old hunting lodge, where the embers have cooled to ash but the scent of burned leather and woodsmoke clings to the drapes. It feels dense, smoky, and balsamic, leaning natural in its resinous core but with a synthetic smoothness to the leather that keeps it niche without being abrasive. The longevity is decent at three to four hours, but the sillage is frustratingly shy: this is a whisper, not a presence. What good is a sophisticated blend if no one can smell it on you?
