Altesse Mysore
Fragrance notes
Character
Altesse Mysore opens with a sharp spark of pink pepper and elemi that feels almost medicinal, that synthetic-cool hum of Ambroxan already buzzing underneath. It takes a few minutes for the rose and dried plum to slink in, a jammy, slightly powdery heart that wobbles between elegant and cloying. The dry down is where it finally settles into its best self: a warm, balsamic amber with cedar and patchouli dusted in vanilla and white musk, like an antique wooden chest that has held dried roses and sticky dates for decades.
This is a heavy, sweet oriental floral that leans decidedly feminine despite its unisex label, and it wears like a plush velvet robe stained with red wine and dried fruit syrup. The longevity and sillage ratings are solid, mid three-point range, which translates to about six hours and moderate projection, but the sweetness can become a bit overbearing in warmer weather. If you love dense, jammy roses with a fuzzy amber base, this will feel like a guilty pleasure. If you prefer crisp, airy florals or anything shy of vanilla, skip it.
Best reserved for autumn and winter evenings, ideally when you want to feel like you are wearing a decadent dessert in a room full of dark wood and candlelight. It is not niche avant garde, nor is it a clean mainstream crowd pleaser, it sits somewhere in that comfortable middle, a little too loud for the office, a little too sweet for summer, but perfectly at home on a cool night when you want to be noticed without shouting.
