Alma Libre opens with bergamot that provides a bright, citrus introduction. The heart moves to yarrow, an herbal note that adds a slightly bitter, green edge to the composition. The base brings benzoin, oakmoss, vetiver and vanilla together. Benzoin and vanilla supply a resinous, sweet warmth. Oakmoss contributes a damp, earthy quality. Vetiver adds a dry, woody depth. The result is an amber, warm spicy, earthy, vanilla, mossy, woody and balsamic profile that feels grounded and rich. The fragrance is composed by Zoe Strantzali for Nymphæa and is presented as a unisex oriental woody scent.
The blend stays cohesive throughout its development. The citrus from the opening fades as the resinous base takes over, but the yarrow prevents the vanilla and benzoin from becoming overly sweet. The oakmoss and vetiver keep the texture dry rather than syrupy. The materials lean synthetic in their smoothness, lacking the rough edges that would make the earthy and balsamic facets feel natural. The sweetness from the vanilla is prominent and may feel heavy to those who prefer drier amber compositions. The yarrow is subtle and can get lost beneath the stronger base notes.
