Our take

Pepper and anise open sharp and faintly liquorice-like, with bergamot cutting through for a brief citrus lift before the spice takes over fully within the first few minutes. Fruity notes and lavender move into the heart, softening the anise's sharper edge, while French labdanum adds a resinous warmth that starts pulling the fragrance toward its base earlier than most fragrances in this style.

Vanille, patchouli, and vetyver settle the base into something sweet, dry, and woody all at once, patchouli in particular giving it an earthy backbone under the vanilla's sweetness. Staying power holds at a calm, moderate level, and only a small amount escapes the skin, forming a contained warmth noticed by whoever happens to be nearby.

True to its name, this belongs to the colder, darker part of the year and the later part of the day, a fragrance built for a jacket, low light, and cold air over a bright morning. The pepper-anise opening is distinctive enough to carry the whole thing on its own, sharp and a little unusual next to how sweet the vanilla base eventually turns, a genuine contrast rather than a smooth blend.
