Incense curls through Belle d'Opium almost from the start, threading between white florals that would otherwise read as a straightforward bouquet. Casablanca lily and gardenia open heavy and creamy, jasmine adding weight, mandarin orange the only bright note cutting through all that density. It is a big, wintry floral built for cold air, not a light spring scent.
The heart brings tobacco and white pepper into that incense, along with peach and rose, and this is the most interesting stretch of the whole fragrance: sweet fruit and smoky spice pulling against each other instead of settling into one lane.
By the base, sandalwood and patchouli take over, amber warms everything further, and vanilla softens the smoke into something closer to a worn leather jacket left near a fireplace. This drydown carries most of the fragrance's personality, dark, resinous, and slow to unfold, and it is worth the wait for anyone patient with the opening.
It holds at a fair, middling pace on skin, and its reach stays near the body, warming the air right around the wearer more than announcing itself to everyone nearby. Cold weather and evenings suit it better than a summer afternoon; tobacco and incense lovers will find plenty to like, but fans of clean, transparent scents should expect it to feel heavy from the first spray.
