Our take

Ianthe Oud opens with mimosa and bergamot, a bright and slightly fuzzy yellow floral touch that carries a clean citrus lift. The entrance is polite and brief, giving way to violet and myrrh surrounded by cedar. The heart feels powdery and resinous at once, with the violet lending a soft, cosmetic edge while the myrrh adds a dry, faintly medicinal warmth. Cedar supports the floral side with a dry wood presence that keeps the middle from becoming too sweet. The transition is steady rather than dramatic, moving from floral lightness into a heavier, more solemn space where the base begins to take over.

Leather and oud lead the drydown, dense and dark, with guaiac wood and patchouli deepening the woody accord. Frankincense brings a resinous smoke that lingers behind the leather, giving the blend a churchy, solemn character. The sweetness in the base is muted by the bitter resin and the dry pull of the woods, so the overall impression stays grounded rather than sugary. Powder from the earlier violet persists, now wrapped in amber and warm spice that make the fragrance feel enclosed and intimate. It suits a cool evening walk under streetlights, coat collar turned up, when the air is crisp enough to make resin and wood feel necessary. The leather wears close to the skin while the resin continues to exhale
