Our take

Is this the bright citrus you wear when the air feels heavy and the sun is high? Drowning in Zest answers with a rush of blood orange, tangerine, and bergamot that meets black currant and mint in a lively, slightly fizzy blend. Turkish rose and ginger add a floral lift that keeps the fruit from leaning flat, while pink pepper, black pepper, cardamom, and cinnamon bring a warm spicy thread through the freshness. Sandalwood, cedar, patchouli, and ambergris ground the mix with a woody amber base, and tonka bean, vanilla, benzoin, coffee, and musk round it out into something smooth and powdery. The accord reads as citrus first, then aromatic and green, with enough vanilla and amber to feel generous rather than sharp. It suits someone who likes a juicy opening but still wants a resinous, slightly earthy foundation under the brightness.

The composition carries a lot of notes at once, and that abundance is also its weak point. The mint and the citrus can get lost against the heavier spices and the sweet resinous base, so the zest that gives the fragrance its name does not always lead the way. Coffee and benzoin add depth, but they also pull the blend toward a darker, heavier place that competes with the tangerine and bergamot instead of letting them shine. It is a generous mix that tries to cover many moods in one bottle, and the result is a little crowded. The clarity suffers when the fruity and aromatic facets meet the full warm spicy accord. The scent is enjoyable, but it does not always smell focused.
