Our take

A splash of sea water and a fistful of ripe melon, that’s how Odette announces itself. The top notes are a bright, almost briny fruit salad where pineapple and green apple jostle with Amalfi lemon, all of it soaked in an ozonic mist. It feels like a day at a polished beach resort, not wild surf but a chlorinated pool overlooking turquoise water. The heart tames the citrus with freesia and a sheer jasmine that never turns indolic, staying clean and polite. Then the base arrives with a curious contrast: soft musk and warm mahogany, cedar, teak, amber. The woodiness is more imagined than real, a whisper of furniture polish on a sun lounger.

The overall character is a faceted tropical spritzer served in a fine crystal glass, but the ice melts fast. Longevity is genuinely disappointing, barely three hours before it becomes a skin scent, and sillage hovers close throughout. It feels synthetic in the best mainstream way, like a well blended designer aquatic but without the tenacity. This is a fragrance for a spring afternoon garden party or a summer brunch, strictly daytime. It suits someone who wants a cheerful, uncomplicated floral fruit to lift her mood, not to announce her presence. Those seeking depth, staying power, or anything nocturnal should skip it. Odette is a pretty postcard, but you’ll need to spray again to finish reading it.
