Our take

Aldehydes open the composition crisp and slightly powdery in the classic sense, joined by angelica and bergamot for a sparkling, faintly bitter citrus lift. It reads like a fragrance built in conversation with the great aldehydic florals of decades past, formal in a way modern releases rarely attempt.

Violet, iris, rose, lavender, and peony crowd into the heart, a dense, powdery bouquet that leans cool rather than warm, iris in particular giving it a chilled, mineral quality. By the base, incense joins amber, patchouli, musk, and Virginia cedar for something resinous and a little smoky, patchouli and cedar giving the whole thing real weight.

The composition has real reach once it settles, noticed well before you've finished a sentence, and it holds on for a long while after that, well past the point where the aldehydes have faded. This is built for cold-weather evenings almost exclusively, fall and winter after dark, with little for a fragrance meant for daylight or warm air.

Christine Nagel and Aurélien Guichard built something formal and a little severe here, closer to eveningwear than a casual daily scent, and it rewards patience: the aldehyde opening is sharp enough to test a first impression before the violet and incense settle into something warmer underneath.
