XX Artisan Teal

Character
John Varvatos XX Artisan Teal opens with a sharp, herbal lemon that cuts through the morning air like a citrus knife through rosemary sprigs, bright and almost savory. It’s a promising start, but the heart quickly softens into a watery lily pad accord dusted with pink pepper’s fleeting warmth. The base settles into a beachcomber’s blend of sea salt and sun-bleached driftwood, with a whisper of clean musk holding the whole thing together. The overall character is a polished seaside shed, the kind where a fisherman keeps his tackle box next to a jar of dried lavender. It feels natural enough, like a mainstream aquatic that tries to be niche but forgets to stay for dinner.
The problem is its sheer reluctance to project or persist. A sillage of 2.33 and longevity barely scraping 2.70 means you’re applying this like a prayer, hoping a breeze will carry it to someone’s nose before it evaporates entirely. It’s a shame, because the salty, aromatic, slightly floral blend is genuinely pleasant, a spring-summer day scent that works best on a clean white shirt at brunch or a dockside stroll. It suits the man who values restraint and subtlety over presence, who wants to smell like he just stepped out of a coastal shower. Skip this if you want to be noticed, or if you’re working in a room larger than a phone booth. A lovely ghost of a fragrance.
