Our take

Cracked grass, sharp cassis, and a fig so green it barely ripens before cherry jolts through the opening like a startled bird. This is Jo Malone’s Wild Fig & Cassis, and it does exactly what the brand does best: creates a mood that evaporates before you can blame your memory. The heart swerves into a pine forest that’s been dusted with hyacinth and a whisper of jasmine, but the pine stays stiff and polite, never resinous enough to feel real. Underneath, cedar and musk hold the structure together like a wicker basket on a summer picnic that no one actually eats from. The whole composition feels like a soft-stemmed flower pressed between the pages of a garden catalogue it’s pretty, fleeting, and more synthetic than a farm stand.

Let’s be honest about the numbers longevity clocks in at a measly 2.74 out of five, sillage barely nudging 2.68. You’ll need to reapply before lunch, and nobody past arm’s length will know you’re wearing anything. The tart fruit and damp greenery are most at home in spring and summer, daytime only that night rating of 21 percent tells you this fades fast after dinner. Who should wear it? Someone who wants a gentle, elegant brush with nature without committing to a full green stomp through a forest glade. Who should skip it? Anyone who wants their fragrance to outlast a conversation or to turn heads from across the room. This is a watercolor sketch, not an oil painting, and its beauty lies in how quickly it is gone.
