Our take

You know exactly what you’re getting from 212 Surf for Him the moment it hits skin. That opening is a cold, briny slap of sea notes, unsweetened and almost metallic, like a wave crashing against a concrete pier. The grapefruit heart cuts through with a sharp citrus tang, but it’s not the juicy, sun-ripened kind. It’s the bitter pith. The patchouli base offers a faint earthy anchor, but it’s all so whisper-thin that this fragrance feels less like a full fragrance and more like the ghost of a day at the beach. It’s a synthetic, clean aquatic that smells like a high-end hotel shampoo, the kind that evaporates before you finish drying off.

The overall character is a fleeting, well-mannered splash of salt and citrus on a youthful, casual frame. Longevity clocks in just above mediocre, sillage even lower. You’ll get maybe two hours of soft projection before it retreats to a skin scent that needs your nose pressed to your wrist. This is strictly a daytime companion for warm, humid spring and summer afternoons, a work-friendly or errand-running spritz that won’t announce your arrival. It suits the guy who wants to smell fresh without trying too hard, but if you crave presence, depth, or staying power, skip the surf and paddle elsewhere.
