Our take

Orange and violet open CH Africa with a curious handshake, the citrus bright but softened by that dusty floral powder. Then the rooibos tea arrives, not sweet or iced, but steeped hot with cinnamon, and the iris adds a lipstick shimmer that keeps things politely feminine. Olivier Cresp lets the incense creep in slowly, wrapping the vanilla in a smoky haze rather than a gourmand cloud.

This is a campfire at the edge of a tea plantation, the embers still glowing under a violet dusk. The warmth is real but contained, which suits its modest performance perfectly. Longevity barely stretches past three hours and sillage stays close to the elbow, so you are not announcing yourself, you are leaving a whisper on a scarf or a collar. The dry down fades into a softly powdery, herbal amber that feels more like a cashmere sweater than a statement coat.

It works best in spring and fall, and interestingly this is a daytime scent through and through, the 100 percent day rating makes sense because the rooibos and cinnamon never feel heavy enough for a night out. Skip it if you crave projection or a full eight hour arc. But if you want a quiet, smoky floral that sits still and lets you lean in, CH Africa has a gentle intelligence that most vanillic orientals lack.
