Our take

Plum leads Decadence from the first moment, dark and jammy, sharpened by saffron and an early hit of iris that gives the fruit a powdery, slightly bitter edge. Orris, jasmine sambac and Bulgarian rose thicken the heart considerably, turning the initial fruit into something closer to a dense floral than a straightforward fruity opening. By the base, vetiver, papyrus and liquidambar bring in something drier and more leathery, and the composition keeps going long after the opening act has faded, settling into a warm, powdery leather that barely resembles the plum it started with. The sillage keeps a modest, personal kind of reach, noticed mostly by whoever's close by. Papyrus in particular gives the drydown a dry, paper-like texture that lightens the leather considerably.

It suits fall and winter best, and it rewards a wearer who wants a fruity oriental with real weight in the base instead of just top-note sweetness. The plum and leather together make an unusual, moody pairing, and that mood is really the whole reason to wear it. There's little here for anyone wanting something light or transparent, since even the opening plum carries real density.
