Character
Haltane is built for the part of the year when the sun sets before dinner. Lavender, clary sage and bergamot open with a herbal, almost medicinal freshness, cool and slightly bitter, giving no early hint of the sweetness waiting in the heart.
Saffron and praline take over next, and the combination is genuinely unusual: saffron's dry, leathery spice running straight into a burnt-sugar praline note that never quite turns into a straightforward dessert. It sits closer to spiced nuts, warmed and toasted, than to caramel from a jar.
Agarwood and cedar close it out, dark and a little metallic, with a leather-adjacent quality that the accords list separately from the oud itself. The whole drydown reads dark and resinous, the kind of base that would feel wrong worn under a summer sun and exactly right on a cold night out.
Longevity is genuinely long-lasting, holding firm on skin for a good while once it settles in. Sillage sits at the upper end of modest, a fuller bubble than the average skin-close scent, easily caught by whoever is standing near you. It comes into its own once the temperature drops, the saffron-praline heart showing best against cold, dry air.
