About the house

Parfums de Marly launched in 2009, founded by Julien Sprecher. According to a ParfumPlus interview, he trained at Guerlain and Orlane before taking over the family brand. The house describes its inspiration as the 18th-century French era and the splendor of the royal court, and says it revives the spirit of Louis XV's "perfumed court", la cour parfumée.

Sprecher also ties the house to horses. He says each fragrance is named after a horse breed, and explains that he likes horses as very majestic animals. On the question of taste, he says he first creates for himself and does not always follow the trends of the market.

The company behind the brand is older than the brand itself. BeautyMatter reports that Sprecher Berrier Group, the parent of Parfums de Marly and Initio Parfums Prives, was created in 1981 and has been run by Julien Sprecher and Axel Berrier since 2000. It began as a consulting agency and master distributor for perfume brands in the Middle East.

On the creative side, Icon names Hamid Merati-Kashani as a longtime collaborator of Sprecher on masculine fragrances, and credits Althair to him and Ilias Ermenidis. The same piece describes the house's work as rich, complex compositions that unfold over time rather than single-note soliflores.

In April 2026 BeautyMatter reported that Advent had hired Jefferies, with Goldman Sachs advising, to sell Parfums de Marly. The process was at an early stage and no sale had been announced. The same report puts annual sales between EUR 375 and 400 million and says Sprecher has stepped down as longtime CEO to focus mainly on creative work.

Signature notes

These notes show up in Parfums de Marly fragrances at least twice as often as in the catalogue as a whole. We worked this out from each fragrance's listed notes. It is not how the house describes itself.
