Character
A cold blast of lemon, grapefruit and mint opens Sedley, closer to a citrus soda than a traditional cologne, before mandarin and bergamot round the sharpness out. It holds for a moderate stretch before settling into something quieter, and the sillage stays modest, easily caught by whoever's nearby. Lavender and rosemary bring the fragrance into more familiar aromatic territory through the heart, green and slightly herbal. Geranium threads through as well, a faint minty-rose green adding another layer to the aromatic heart.
Olibanum adds a resinous lift underneath, and by the base, ambroxan and cashmeran bring a clean, modern amber-woody warmth, with patchouli and vetiver adding earth and a little bitterness underneath. Cedar and sandalwood round out the woody accord without pushing the composition anywhere heavy.
Sedley reads as a warm-weather, daytime fragrance more than an evening one, bright enough for the office and unfussy enough for a weekend.
It doesn't ask for much attention once it settles, more of a background layer for the day than a scent built to stand out on its own. Men who like sharp citrus openings but want something calmer underneath will get the most out of it.
