Habdan opens with a shimmering veil of saffron and olibanum, the kind of resinous, slightly metallic brightness that suggests something ceremonial. As it dries down, the base takes over with myrrh’s smoky bitterness, ambergris’s saline warmth, and a caramel that feels less like dessert and more like burned sugar on a cold night. The overall character is a vintage library after a fire has been stoked, a single apple left to caramelize on the hearth.
This is not a bomb thrower. With longevity around 3.5 and sillage just above 3, Habdan sits close to the skin, intimate rather than declarative. The sweetness is present but balanced by the balsamic and woody notes, so it avoids the syrupy trap of many oriental vanillas. It feels natural enough, though the caramel is clearly constructed, and the whole composition has a polished niche smoothness that Parfums de Marly does well.
