Our take

Coca-Cola as a listed note sounds like a gimmick, and at first sniff it almost is: cinnamon, cherry and Sicilian lemon fizz together into something that genuinely smells like a glass of cola over ice, nutmeg adding warmth underneath. It should not work as well as it does.

Orange blossom and patchouli leaf move the heart into slightly more serious territory, patchouli giving it an earthy backbone that pulls the composition away from pure candy and toward something more structured.

Then the base takes it somewhere else entirely: tonka bean, vanilla, benzoin and labdanum build a dense, resinous amber that has almost nothing to do with the cherry cola opening. Tonka's hay-like sweetness dominates, benzoin adds balsamic thickness, and labdanum gives the base a slightly leathery depth. This drydown earns Tonka Cola its comparisons to gourmand orientals more than novelty colognes.

On skin it keeps going well past the point the cola and cherry opening has faded. Its presence stays modest, a warm sweetness noticed only once someone is within easy conversation of you. Wear it somewhere playful is welcome and a little sweetness will not be out of place. Fans of gourmand ambers with real depth in the base will get more out of this than the cola gimmick promises up front.
