CK One Shock For Him starts cool and green, cucumber and clementine cut by lavender, then pivots hard toward something spicier and darker than the opening suggests. Cardamom, pepper and basil crowd into the heart together, and osmanthus adds a faint apricot-leather sweetness that rounds off the spice before it can turn sharp. It is an odd, likeable contrast, a fragrance that starts like a shower gel and ends like a tobacco pouch.
Tobacco, amber, patchouli and musk fill the base, and together they pull the fragrance into its real character, warm and a little dusty compared with the crisp opening. Longevity is moderate, and the sillage stays modest, noticed within arm's reach more than broadcast to a crowd. Spring, fall and winter suit it better than summer, when the green citrus opening would dominate and the tobacco drydown would barely get a chance to show itself. Wear it once the temperature has already dropped, and let the woody, spiced base carry the fragrance the way the name promises.
Basil in the heart is easy to miss on first wear, but it adds a faint green thread that ties the cool opening to the darker base, the one note doing double duty across both halves of the fragrance.
