Calvin Klein

Explore 195 Calvin Klein fragrances — notes, longevity, sillage and community ratings, matched to how you want to smell. The house dates from 1968, founded by Calvin Klein.

About the house

Calvin Richard Klein was born in the Bronx, New York, on 19 November 1942. He founded Calvin Klein Limited with his childhood friend Barry K. Schwartz, and the company began as a coat shop in the York Hotel in New York City, started with $10,000, in 1968. Klein later received CFDA awards in 1981, 1983 and 1993.

Fragrance came to the house through a licensing structure that changed hands more than once. The fragrance lines were run by Calvin Klein Cosmetics Company, a Unilever subsidiary, until Coty bought the Calvin Klein licence from Unilever in 2005. That 2005 purchase also covered the Cerruti, Chloé, Lagerfeld and Vera Wang licences, five in all with Calvin Klein. PVH Corp. had acquired the Calvin Klein company itself three years earlier, in 2002.

Among the house's fragrance lines are Obsession, CK Be, Eternity and CK One. The Perfume Society writes that few contemporary fragrances have shaken up the scent world the way Obsession did in 1985.

CK One has the most documented history of the group. It is described as the first fragrance to be openly marketed as unisex, and it reportedly took in more than $5 million in its first 10 days on sale.

These notes show up in Calvin Klein fragrances at least twice as often as in the catalogue as a whole. We worked this out from each fragrance's listed notes. It is not how the house describes itself.
