Our take

Mary Jane opens with a bright, almost electric jolt of mint and grapefruit, the cannabis note hovering somewhere between fresh herb and something slightly skunky. That rhubarb cuts through with a tart, green snap that keeps the whole thing from tipping into stoner cliché. Then the heart shifts: passionfruit adds a syrupy tropical sweetness, while sage and elemi lend an herbal resinousness that feels more Mediterranean than headshop. The base goes warm and woody with pine, cashmere wood, and a caramel that is more of a whisper than a full-on gourmand move. The overall effect is like a picnic blanket tossed over a forgotten grow op in a sunlit forest, all dew and dirt and a faint sugar crust.

It is undeniably pleasant but also frustratingly timid. The sillage sits at a shy 2.61, meaning you will get more sniffs from your own wrist than anyone within arm’s length will catch from you. Longevity barely cracks three hours before it fades into a ghost of caramel and clean wood. For a fragrance named after weed and built around passionfruit and pine, it plays it far too safe, leaning synthetic in the mid and lacking the grit its notes suggest. This is a daytime spritz for spring or summer, best on a person who wants a whiff of the counterculture without actually smelling like they rolled one. Skip it if you crave presence or projection. Mary Jane is a joint that burns out before you finish the first pass.
