You amp the oven, maybe a touch too high, and in that shimmer of heat Sugar Addict opens with a rum-soaked sugar cube, sticky and heady. Cinnamon and coffee rush in quickly, not as a sharp spice but as a warm haze, like the exhale from a freshly poured espresso. The dry down is all vanilla absolute and tonka, smoothed out by cashmere wood and a whisper of labdanum, turning what could have been a brash gourmand into a cashmere blanket you’ve spilled hot chocolate on. That is the image: a decadent dessert left to cool on a bedside table, sweet enough to make your teeth ache but soft enough to fall asleep to.
The nose behind this is Anne-Sophie Behaghel, and she knows what she’s doing. This is unmistakably niche, a bit syrupy around the edges, but surprisingly wearable once it settles. The numbers tell a fair story, longevity is solid enough at three point six out of five, but sillage dips to just under three. You will smell it on yourself, others may catch a drift if they lean in close, but this is not a room filler. It is a personal cocoon. Best worn when the temperature drops, which explains why winter and fall take the top seasons, and it leans comfortably unisex despite the sugary start.
Who should wear it? Anyone who wants to smell like a baked good without apologizing for it. Who should skip? Those who find ambroxan too loud will probably find this too sweet, and if you prefer your skin to smell like air, run. Still, for a cozy night in or a chilly commute, Sugar Addict does exactly what it says on the bottle, no false promises.
