Our take

Dead Dinosaur opens with a sharp, almost confrontational blast of gasoline, but the magnolia that follows is no shrinking violet. It blooms right through that petrochemical haze, creamy and slightly waxy, while pink pepper and davana add a tart, herbal fizz. As the minutes pass, the ginger and cedar give it a dry, spicy skeleton, and then the peru balsam and amber melt everything into a warm, slightly sweet resinous base. The orris root powders the edges without softening the weirdness. The overall character is like a single magnolia blossom growing through a crack in an asphalt parking lot, petals smudged with oil and still fragrant. It feels deliberately synthetic in the best way, a thoughtful composition that never tries to pretend it’s natural. The problem is that it behaves like a shy animal: sillage barely whispers, and longevity fades fast, often gone before you’ve had your coffee. It’s a fragrance for people who love contradictions and don’t need to announce themselves from across the room. Skip it if you want projection or hearty staying power. Wear it on a cool summer night when you want to smell like a beautiful accident, or on a crisp fall afternoon when the air itself seems to ask for something strange and tender.
