Our take

You open with a bergamot shimmer, a bright citrus blink that vanishes quickly into a dense, powdery floral haze. The heart is where this lives: heliotrope and violet give it that dusty, cosmetic softness, while orange blossom, ylang-ylang, jasmine, and rose layer in a creamy white floral sweetness. Peach adds a faint candied ripple. Then the base drops like a heavy velvet curtain — orris, oakmoss, vanilla, Peru balsam, cinnamon, cloves, sandalwood, patchouli. It becomes warm, balsamic, slightly spicy, a woody powdery embrace that feels more like a Victorian powder puff than a lilac bush. That’s its central image: a lace handkerchief pressed inside a leather-bound diary, dried petals and dust and faint spice.

The numbers don’t lie. Longevity and sillage hover just under three, so this is an intimate floral, not a room-filler. It blooms close to skin and fades after a few hours. That makes it feel more niche than mainstream, crafted for the person who wants complexity without shouting. The sweetness is tempered by spice and dry woods, never syrupy. Is it worth the Roja price tag? Only if you adore that antique, powdery balsamic character and don’t mind reapplying.

Wear it on a cool spring morning, a brown silk blouse and a garden bench. Skip it if you demand projection or want a fresh, green lilac. This is a floral in a wool shawl, not a linen sundress.
