Our take

Isola Blu opens with a brisk citrus slap — lime, bergamot, lemon — but what makes it interesting is the lavender and thyme threading through, turning the initial brightness herbal rather than merely sweet. Within minutes, the heart swells with apple, black currant, and a surprisingly creamy coconut that doesn't go tropical; it stays restrained, almost sunscreen-like in a chic European way. The dry down is where Roja does what Roja does best: a woody, mossy base studded with juniper, patchouli, tonka, and enough labdanum to feel plush without suffocating. The overall character is that of a linen suit on a yacht deck at noon — crisp, polished, but with the salt and warmth of the sea creeping in.

For a 2023 release, this leans cleverly backward, blending classical fougère structure with a fruity-fresh modernity. It feels natural in its citrus and floral accord, though the coconut and vanilla tip it toward a smoothness that some will call synthetic. It’s niche in intent but mainstream in wearability, which is both its strength and its soft spot. Longevity is modest at best (3.5/5) and sillage barely whispers — you’ll get a solid four hours before it becomes a skin scent. That’s a shame given the price tag and the complexity Roja built.

Wear this on a warm spring morning at the coast, or a high-summer afternoon when you want to smell like money that doesn’t need to shout. Men and women both, but skip it if you crave projection or all-day presence; this one stays close, like a polite secret.
