Our take

London opens with a brisk herbal slap: lavender and sage, sharpened by oregano and bergamot. That aromatic clarity is brief, though. Within minutes the labdanum and May rose move in, wrapping the composition in a dense, ambered warmth. The drydown is where the real weight settles: benzoin, incense, clove, leather, saffron, cardamom, and patchouli all swirl together into a resinous, slightly smoky pudding. It is unapologetically rich and baroque, like a wood-paneled clubroom where the ashtrays are polished silver and the curtains have not been drawn in decades.

The overall character evokes a very old, very expensive armchair that has absorbed decades of pipe smoke, polished leather, and vanilla-scented candle wax. It feels heavy and natural, leaning decisively niche, though the moderate longevity (3.59) and modest sillage (3.17) mean it stays close to the skin. That is the honest weakness: for the price and bombast of notes, you might expect more projection and staying power. But what it lacks in reach it gains in texture.

This scent suits someone who dresses deliberately, who appreciates complexity over crowd-pleasing brightness. Skip it if you prefer fresh citrus or light florals, or if the words “wet oregano” make you wince. Wear it on chilly autumn afternoons, a warm scarf around the neck, or during a quiet winter evening by the fire. It is a fragrance for contemplation, not conversation, which is exactly the point.
