Oud 777 opens with a brutalist slap of raw agarwood, the kind that smells like a freshly cut plank soaked in vintage hospital antiseptic. There is no soft introduction, no citrus handshake or floral buffer. The middle note is more of the same, just louder and deeper, as if the perfumer decided that layering the same material at different densities was the only honest path forward. By the time the base emerges, something interesting happens: leather and tonka bean creep in not to tame the oud, but to furnish its squalor. The leather is thick and animalic, the tonka delivers a sweet, almost powdery amber warmth that softens the edges like old furniture polish on a bruised floorboard.
The overall character is a log cabin that's been locked shut for a decade with the fireplace still smoldering. It is heavy, smoky, and undeniably natural in its dirtiness, skating the line between niche art and a dare. Longevity is excellent, easily eight to ten hours, but the sillage sits at a modest three point six out of five, which means you won't announce yourself from across the bar, only from the seat next to you. That is actually a mercy, because this fragrance wears best in the deep freeze of winter, where its aggressive warmth feels like a secret furnace instead of an olfactory assault. It belongs on a man who loves leather jackets and old books, someone comfortable with a scent that demands patience. Skip it if you prefer clean cotton or cocktail chatter, this one asks you to sit still and smell the splinters.
