Polo Supreme Oud opens with a warm slap of cinnamon and a sharp pink pepper that clears your sinuses, but the sweetness here is not gourmand. It is a dry, almost dusty spice that quickly gives way to the central agarwood note. That oud is not the barnyard, skanky kind. It is a polished, woody oud that feels more like a dark, freshly cut plank of guaiac wood than a resinous tincture. The vetiver in the base adds a clean, earthy rootiness that keeps the whole affair from tipping into heaviness.
The overall character reminds me of an old leather-bound journal stored in a cedar chest, faintly spicy, slightly sweet, but mostly dusty and grounded. It is an Oriental Woody scent that feels squarely mainstream in execution, smooth and safe, but with enough of an ashy, woody edge to avoid being boring. The longevity is moderate at best, barely three and a half hours on my skin, and projection stays close, which is the fragrance’s clear weakness. You will need to reapply if you want anyone beyond an arm’s length to notice.
Who wears this well? A man who wants an approachable oud, one that works in the office or on a winter evening walk. It is perfect for cold weather, fall through winter, and almost strictly for nighttime. Skip this if you crave real oud density or beast mode performance. Instead, treat it like a quiet companion, a subtle accent to a wool coat and a glass of dark rum. Why demand a roar when a whisper can be just as memorable?
