Our take

Immortelle is the note that gives L de Lolita Lempicka its personality, a dry, faintly maple-like sweetness that sits in the heart alongside cinnamon and musk. Bitter orange and bergamot open first, sharper and more bitter than a typical orange top note, and that bitterness carries through into the immortelle instead of disappearing the way top notes usually do. Maurice Roucel is credited with the formula, and that handoff from bitter citrus to dry immortelle is really the signature move of the whole opening.

Vanilla, tonka bean and sandalwood fill the base, thick and a little gourmand, though cinnamon keeps threading through from the heart so the sweetness never turns purely vanilla-flat. It is warm, spiced, and a touch old-fashioned, closer to a keepsake than a modern citrus fragrance.

It is long-lasting once applied, and the sillage holds a tight radius around the body, intimate more than expansive. Winter evenings pull the most out of it, though spring, summer and fall all show up too, which says less about the fragrance changing character and more about how wearable the warm base stays regardless of the temperature outside. Cinnamon and immortelle together are the whole reason to reach for this bottle, and neither note is subtle about it.
