Our take

Chic by Celine Dion opens with a cheerful, crisp spritz of watermelon and watery green notes that feel like biting into a chilled slice of melon beside a chlorinated pool. The florals arrive softly. Lotus and peony offer a sheer, slightly powdery freshness, while gardenia and violet hover like pastel watercolors that never quite saturate. The base is a polite handshake of clean musk, sandalwood, and a faint nub of amber. This is not a fragrance that digs in. It stays at arm’s length, an aquatic floral that feels more like a gentle breeze than a wave. The overall image is a clear glass of sparkling water with a single gardenia petal floating on top, pretty and unambitious. Patricia Choux created a scent that is undeniably mainstream, leaning synthetic in its aquatic notes, but intentionally light and easy.

The weakness is plain in the numbers: longevity barely touches two hours, and sillage is a close whisper. On the skin it fades so quickly you might wonder if you imagined it. This is the fragrance for someone who wants a brief, noncommittal breath of freshness on a humid summer afternoon, who values a clean aura over presence. Skip it if you crave depth, projection, or hour upon hour of company. Wear it solo, in daylight, when the heat is heavy and the most you ask from a perfume is a fleeting smile. Does it need to be anything more than that? 🌸
