Our take

It opens with a snap of black currant and saffron, tart and faintly metallic, like a copper penny dropped into a jar of rose preserves. That metallic buzz is the first surprise, and it lingers as the rose unfolds, not syrupy or dewy but jammy and slightly crushed, bruised almost. The base of amber and patchouli dries down into a warm, woody haze that keeps the rose grounded, never letting it float away into grandma territory. The whole thing feels polished but not sterile, leaning niche with a clean synthetic edge that gives it lift.

Longevity is solid, easily four to six hours, and sillage sits close enough that it won’t announce you from across the room, but people leaning in will catch that curious mix of fruit, spice, and leathery patchouli. The metallic accord is the most divisive element, a little sharp on first spray, but it softens into something like worn saddle leather against the amber. It wears like a dark amber pendant left in a cool cellar, faintly rosy, faintly fruited, with a patina that wants to be discovered.

This is for someone who likes their florals tempered with grit, who doesn’t mind a note that snags rather than soothes. Skip it if you want a sweet, easy rose or a creamy vanilla amber; the black currant and saffron keep things angular. Best worn in spring evenings or crisp fall afternoons, and it’s just as comfortable on a wool coat as it is on bare skin in a candlelit room.
