Our take

Midnight in Paris earns its name after dark, when leather and bergamot read like a worn jacket pocket rather than a bottle of cologne, Amalfi lemon and rosemary keeping the opening bright before the leather takes over. Tea and styrax move in for the heart, dry and a little smoky, and lily-of-the-valley adds one unexpected floral touch in an otherwise resinous composition. The base is where the fragrance earns its name twice over: tonka bean, incense, benzoin, and amber build a warm, smoky glow, and almond threads through all of it, giving the sweetness a marzipan quality, not generic vanilla.

Longevity takes hold early and shows little interest in fading once it settles in, and sillage forms a gentle ring around the wearer, enough to be caught by whoever sits beside you at dinner.

Fall and winter are its clear home, when the smoky amber and incense make sense against cold, dark evenings, and it feels almost out of place under bright daylight.

The almond gives the drydown a bitter, nutty edge, more marzipan than pure sugar, and that pairing of leather and almond is what makes the fragrance distinct.
