About the house
Amouage was founded in 1983 in Muscat, Oman, at the request of Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said. Accounts of who founded it differ. One names Prince Sayyid Hamad bin Hamoud Al Busaidi, while the house says it was founded by the Albusaidi family, with Sayyid Badr as founding chairman. It describes itself as "The Gift of Kings", and its homepage calls it high perfumery from the Sultanate of Oman.
Ownership today sits with Oman Perfumery LLC, a subsidiary of the Omani SABCO Group. The house says its board chairman is Sayyid Khalid, who succeeded his brother Sayyid Badr in 2003. Christopher Chong was the creative director in an earlier period. In 2025 Renaud Salmon took over the creative direction, though sources differ on his exact title, and one reviewer says that under him the house has embraced perfumers with distinct artistic signatures.
The bottles carry local references. The cap on the women's bottles is shaped like the dome of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque. There are 21 standalone Amouage shops, and the products are also sold in department stores around the world. In 2025 the house joined the Aura Blockchain Consortium, as the first beauty and Middle Eastern brand to do so.
The house says it has made over 50 perfumes and lists Gold, Jubilation and Epic among its classics. Its 40th anniversary fell in 2023, marked with Jubilation 40 by Bertrand Duchaufour, who had also overseen the pair released for the 25th anniversary in 2008, Jubilation XXV for men and Jubilation 25 for women. A reviewer describes the Jubilation line as resinous, with prominent incense. In 2025 came Decision by Quentin Bisch, which closes the Odyssey Collection alongside Meander, Crimson Rocks, Material and Guidance, and Sindbad, made with the Royal Opera House Muscat.
The house describes its style as East meeting West and ties it to Oman's history as an incense and myrrh trading centre. A 2026 trio called New Essences is reported to be 30% perfume oil, aged six months and double-infused with sandalwood and oakwood barrels.
