Our take

Enclave opens with a startling jolt of peppermint so cold and sharp it could cut glass, but the cardamom and pink pepper quickly soften that chill into something more akin to a spice bazaar at dawn. The cinnamon sneaks in just before the heart takes over, and here is where the fragrance pulls its real trick: olibanum and rose twist the fougere structure into a green, almost resinous knot, with vetiver and patchouli anchoring the floral sweetness to the earth. The base is all labdanum and Amber Xtreme, a synthetic warmth that clings like a heated leather jacket left in the sun, giving Enclave a persistent, slightly powdery glow that lasts for hours.

This is a fragrance that feels both ancient and aggressively modern, like a fresco painted over with neon. The sillage rating of 3.39 tells you it won’t announce you from across the room, but the longevity near 4 means it will stay tethered to your skin through a long evening. It is sweet in a balsamic, ambered way, but the green vetiver and the minty top keep it from feeling syrupy or cloying. Some might call it synthetic, but I’d say it’s deliberately constructed, a niche take on an oriental fougere that refuses to smell like a dusty aftershave.

Who is this for? The man who wants to smell like he just stepped out of a mountain lodge with a fireplace roaring and a sprig of mint in his pocket. Skip it if you hate any hint of cooling mint or if you prefer your leather raw and unlit. It is truly a four-season scent, though fall and spring are its natural hunting grounds, and it works equally well for day or night. At its heart, Enclave is a green cathedral with incense smoke curling through peppermint stained glass.
