About the house
Creed says it was founded in 1760 on Conduit Street in London by James Henry Creed, and that the house has run for over 250 years across seven generations of the family. Author Gabe Oppenheim writes that the Creeds were not in the business of fragrance creation, and that Olivier Creed does not do that technical work and cannot fairly be called a perfumer-creator. Green Irish Tweed carries the date 1985.
The house says its rarest natural ingredients are hand-weighed and aged in its facilities near the Chateau de Fontainebleau. Press coverage of the 2023 sale describes headquarters in Paris with a factory near Fontainebleau.
The Creed family sold the brand to BlackRock and chairman Javier Ferran in early 2020. In June 2023 Kering agreed to buy all Creed shares from funds controlled by BlackRock and from Ferran. Kering did not disclose the price, and press later put it at about 3.5 billion euros. The plan Kering announced was to expand Creed's presence in China and travel retail.
Kering then agreed, in October 2025, to sell its beauty division, Creed included, to L'Oreal for 4 billion euros. The transaction was expected to close in the first half of 2026, pending regulatory approvals.
