Our take

You get three distinct acts with Black Guava, a fruit that starts out at peak ripeness and slowly rots into something far more interesting. Suzy Le Helley opens with a blast of guava that’s juicy, almost syrupy sweet, backed by a bright mandarin fizz and a pinch of cardamom that keeps it from being a one note tropical drink. This is not a shy fruit salad. Within minutes, the heart lunges into territory that will make or break the wearer: a synthetic, barnyard tinged oud that wrestles with peony and rose like a jasmine soaked biker in a flower shop. The geranium adds a green, almost metallic edge, and suddenly you realize this isn’t a beach vacation. It’s a humid greenhouse where the compost bin is right next to the orchid display.

The drydown is where Black Guava earns its name. Amber and cypriol turn the sweetness into a dark, smoky resin, while patchouli grounds everything in damp earth. The overall character is a leathery, fermented fruit, like a guava left in a wooden chest for three weeks. It feels both natural (that real, sticky fruit pulp) and aggressively synthetic (that scratchy oud), skating the line between niche experimentation and a club night gone wrong.

With longevity near excellent at four point three nine and sillage hovering at a respectful three point eight two, this wears like a statement more than a skin scent. It suits someone who wants to smell weird in a wearable way, especially in fall or spring evenings when the warmth can amplify the spice and patchouli. Skip it if you want clean, citrusy freshness or if the idea of oud and fruit fighting on your skin makes you nervous. Black Guava is a bruised stone fruit in a velvet box, not for the faint of heart.
