Our take

Fidelis opens with a jolt of sharp, almost bitter coffee that immediately snaps to attention, but it’s the saffron and cumin that give the first minutes a sweaty, prickly buzz. The cardamom adds a green sweetness, but this is not a polite entrance. Within half an hour, the raspberry and rose slink in, a jammy fruit cut by a dry, dusty floral that refuses to be merely girly. The whole thing settles into a base of oud, amber, and patchouli that is less about barnyard drama and more about a polished, almost leathery warmth. The overall character is that of a velvet smoking jacket worn in a study where the ashtray still holds a half-smoked cigarette and a bowl of dried rose petals sits nearby.

This is a heavy, self-assured scent that leans decisively into fall and winter nights. The longevity is excellent, easily eight hours, and the sillage sits close enough to be an intimate secret but loud enough to make an impression. The cumin and coffee can read as a little synthetic against the rose, a slight metallic edge that keeps it from being a total gourmand hug. That tension is exactly what makes it interesting. Who should wear it? Someone who wants a dark, spicy floral that doesn’t apologize for its complexity, who enjoys a little friction between sweet fruit and dry woods. Skip if you want a clean, airy rose or a straightforward coffee scent. Wear it for a dinner where conversation runs late, or a cloudy afternoon when you need armor that feels like velvet.
