Our take

Soul presents a dense mix of woody and resinous notes anchored by Virginia cedar, benzoin, black spruce, and patchouli. Citrus elements from mandarin orange, lime, and bitter orange cut through the heavier materials without dominating them. Fir, frankincense, and birch add sharp, aromatic edges that keep the blend from feeling flat. The overall character is dry and balsamic rather than sweet, with a pronounced amber accord that lends weight to the composition. It feels constructed and deliberate, sitting closer to a niche aesthetic than a commercial mainstream release. The citrus is bright but quickly absorbed into the surrounding woods, so the fragrance reads as primarily forest-driven with a resinous backbone.

The drydown leans heavily into the interplay between cedar, patchouli, and frankincense, creating a warm, slightly spicy atmosphere that feels steady and grounded. Benzoin and birch add a smooth, balsamic depth that prevents the woods from becoming too austere. Black spruce and fir remain noticeable, maintaining an aromatic freshness that balances the heavier base. The lime and orange notes linger only as faint traces, supporting the resin rather than standing on their own. The limitation here is the blend itself. The resinous woods are so dominant that the citrus and spicy accents never quite find room to breathe, leaving the composition feeling slightly one-dimensional for those who prefer a more varied transition across the wear.
